Difference: Men Vs. Animals
The difference between men and animals is that men have a God-given task which they were created to fulfill and it follows them for eternity, while animals do not. God feeds the animals without them working for it while men must work.
Gen 2:15 “Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.”
Tend and keep means working and taking good care of something by nurturing, protecting, and preserving it. This symbolizes great stewardship.
God gave men the task, he never gave it to animals. He gave men dominion over all to do God’s will. We are to be representatives of God on earth as Christ was. Remember the Lord’s prayer? “Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” That is our assignment. We were created to fulfill God’s desires not our own. Which part of God’s desires are you responsible to fulfill? How do you know this, unless you are led by the Holy Spirit?
When we live our lives according to our desires instead of God’s will and purpose, we resemble animals.
Jesus said,
“In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—
In the volume of the book it is written of Me—
To do Your will, O God.’” Hebrews 10:6-7 NKJV
“Then I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.”” Psalm 40:7-8 NKJV
Christ knew that there was a manual, a book written about him, for his successful mission on earth as God’s child. The book spells out his created purpose, his assignment in detail, and guides him to fulfill God’s desire for him. What about you? Have you found your book? The manual written about you? Are you living according to it? Are you fulfilling your purpose?
Christ taught us how to live a purposeful life successfully. Listen to this interaction between him and his disciples recorded by John.
“Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. John 4:33-35 NKJV
This reminds me of the scripture which Christ quoted during his temptation in Matthew 4:4 NKJV.
“But He answered and said, “It is written,‘ Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Our life is complete when we live by the volume of the scroll written about us. Bread here represents what our flesh needs, our worldly cares, physical needs. Our works which we are busy assigning ourselves. On the other hand, the word of God represents Christ, who is our life. We live in Him alone in order to have everlasting life. Bread alone will destroy us, but keeping and obeying every word of God, gives us everlasting life.
Take a minute to evaluate yourself… What do you live by? Are you seeking out what God is saying and living by His EVERY word?
King Solomon, the wisest king, was full of wisdom. Listen to what revelation he shares with us all in the scriptures below.
“What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:9-11 (NKJV)
“I said in my heart,
“God shall judge the righteous and the wicked,
For there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.”
I said in my heart, “Concerning the condition of the sons of men, God tests them, that they may see that they themselves are like animals.” For what happens to the sons of men also happens to animals; one thing befalls them: as one dies, so dies the other. Surely, they all have one breath; man has no advantage over animals, for all is vanity. All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust. Who knows the spirit of the sons of men, which goes upward, and the spirit of the animal, which goes down to the earth? So I perceived that nothing is better than that a man should rejoice in his own works, for that is his heritage. For who can bring him to see what will happen after him?” Ecclesiastes 3:17-22 (NKJV)
From all these, knowing the difference between you and animals, are you living out your purpose and being the leader that you were created to be, or are you living a purposeless life like animals?
Holy Spirit my helper, show me my manual, reveal to me my purpose, help me to fulfill the God-desire I was created to fulfill in Jesus’s name I pray, believe and receive with thanksgiving. Amen.
