I saw Christ cleansing me in love
One day, while in prayer, I had a vision. In the vision, I saw myself in heaven, resting in Jesus’s arms, in his embrace, as he smiled down at me. My clothes were dirty, he held me close to him, still in his embrace, he began to change my clothes. He took off my dirty clothes and put on some beautiful, clean clothes, still holding me ever so close to him. Before I knew it, I was clothed in a gorgeous, all-pure-white outfit. He removed my dirty clothes, and I did not see them anymore.
What surprised me was that even as he held me close the whole time, none of the dirt that I had on my dirty clothes got onto him. I witnessed firsthand what Jesus does to his bride, who comes to him in repentance. The Holy Spirit is a spirit of conviction. He convicts us of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
I want to introduce the Holy Spirit to us as a spirit of conviction, not a spirit of guilt or condemnation. He helps us to know that we have sinned by his conviction. He does not guilt trip us. He convicts us of righteousness, helping us know what action we must take when we are tempted or what changes to make after a fall. He makes us aware of the need for a savior in whom we obtain righteousness, for we are the righteousness of God in Christ. He convicts us of judgment if we do not change our ways.
Children of God, when you sin, go to Jesus. He will cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Do not let condemnation or guilt and shame from the enemy enter your heart because this will make you run away instead of running towards Christ. Guard your heart. Remember, the enemy uses this bait to keep you in bondage and sin because you do not trust in the love and the cleansing power of the blood of Jesus. If you take his bait, you will never confess, repent, or change your ways.
A child always runs to their parent when they fall in the dirt, even if they had been warned not to go near the dirt. The child still goes back to their parent crying, seeking the parent’s love, forgiveness, and embrace. A good parent picks up their child regardless of their mess, cleanses them in love, holding them close as they remove their dirty clothes in exchange for clean ones. They help them heal from the pain of their fall. We are God’s children, and the only place we can run to when we fall is to God. Do not be afraid to go to him, because his love for us is unconditional and a constant.
God wants us to represent him faithfully, but hiding our fall and staying in dirty clothes misrepresents him. A child who hides their mess makes their parents seem irresponsible. How many Christians have you seen today, hiding their dirt and making others dirty with their clothes? How many times have other people looked at you and wished they had a father like God because you represent him faithfully? When you sin do you go to him for forgiveness, trusting in his love and cleansing power of the blood of Jesus, and rely on the Holy Spirit to help you through the process of change?
1 John 1:7-10 (NKJV) “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
Please join me today as we offer a prayer of thanksgiving to God.
