Love me so much as to Learn my Language…

One day in Acworth, Georgia, my car’s registration was due, and I needed to get a smog test done before renewing my registration. I always had my bible with me to read wherever I went, and this time, it was on my passenger seat. I drove to the smog location and an elderly mechanic very pleasantly greeted me, looking in through my driver’s window he saw my bible placed on the front seat. He asked if I liked reading the Word, and if I knew what John 14:15 said. I did not know of the scripture at the time, so I told him that I was not familiar with it. He said, “If you love me, obey my commands.” Wow! I thought to myself. That was a simple but very powerful scripture. I memorized it from that day.

I have never forgotten that encounter because rarely does one go to the car shop in the United States and finds a mechanic who loves the Lord Jesus and shares scripture. I thought to myself, this scripture that this elderly man had memorized, there must be hidden gems in it, and sure enough there were. Obedience is God’s love language. When we know how a loved one receives love, we give it to them in their preferred way. We all have a different interpretation of what love is and what it looks like. Only someone who loves you will go through the process of learning your love language so that they may share beautiful love conversations and relationship with you.

What does obedience look like to Christ?

His mother said in John 2:5 (NKJV) “His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.””

His Father, our Father said,

“While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, this is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew 17:5 (NIV)

Christ himself said,

“You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.” John 15:14 (NKJV).

Is what Christ asks us to do always easy, pleasant, accepted by society, cool, popular, or painless? Absolutely not! But if you love Him, you will do WHATEVER He asks you to do without delay or question -because you trust him-, and without murmuring or complaining. Pleasing Christ should be our constant goal.

Do you love Jesus?

In Christ’s love,
Gift Zawadi Love.
