Take off…
A man boarded a plane for the first time and took his seat excited to fly to his destination. Other people boarded the plane. There was a lot of movement, everyone trying to get to their seats and store their luggage. The man noticed that the plane was still stopped after 30 minutes of everyone settling. He thought that the plane would take off immediately after everyone settled. So he got impatient after 45 minutes and decided to exit the plane. That made room for someone else to board the plane. There were many people on the waiting list since this was a small village with only one trip in 20 years. It was therefore not difficult to replace him. The one who took his place was so excited because they had waited for a very long time for this flight.
The man watched the plane from outside thinking how wise he was for getting off the stagnant plane. The flight seemed delayed with no movement. Then suddenly, there was movement. The plane began to move but it moved backwards. The man was even more excited at his decision to deplane, that he told everyone around him about it.
The plane turned around slowly as he watched in pride of his decision. The plane then moved forward very slowly making its way to the runway. Once the plane reached the runway, it finally began picking up speed. It went so fast that the man was shocked. He began doubting his decision and eventually fell apart when he finally saw the plane take off into the sky.
He was distraught and blamed those around him and those in the plane for not telling him how the flight operated. He could only point at the plane, but he could not board anymore. The next flight in that village would come in another 20 years. The man’s dreams were shattered, because of lack of patience, knowledge, understanding, wisdom, humility, discipline, ego, and pride. He should have inquired of the status of the plane from the air host before making his final decision.
Has God, by the Holy Spirit assigned you a flight to your destination or your purpose? Do you have the patience and endurance needed to fly high? Or have you despised God’s appointment on your assignment and in your wisdom abandoned it? Have you rejected your assignment? In companies, abandonment of assignment is grounds for termination. Is the Holy Spirit your first and only consultant or is He your last resort?
Proverbs 3:5-7 (NLT)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take.Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.
Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil.”
Rejecting God’s appointment will have you replaced with someone more qualified and efficient than you. One who is a better match for the assignment. Saul was appointed as king and God’s representative, but later he was rejected by God due to his ego, pride, disobedience and full of self and David was appointed in his place. Eli was an anointed priest as unto the Lord but due to his disobedience and being a respecter of his children rather than God, he abandoned his priestly office, was rejected by God, and Samuel was anointed to take his place. Elijah too, allowed the fear of man to overshadow his fear of God, he was replaced by God and Elisha took his place. Moses was chosen and appointed to take the children of Israel into the promised land, but his lack of self-control and anger caused him the promised land, and Joshua took his place. God is not a respecter of persons. He rewards and works with those who love and fear Him.
May we allow the Holy Spirit to grow the fulness of His fruit of love, patience, obedience, knowledge, faithfulness, humility, self-control, and the fear of God in us and purge us of all rebellion against God who has called us, chosen us, anointed us, and appointed us.
In Christ’s love
